Safety First

  Project funding

The project „Safety First“ is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Project partners

Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems

Zentrum für Sonnenenergie und Wasserstoff-Forschung

Objective and results

The objective of the project is to develop recommendations for the design of safe home storage systems. These recommendations will be distributed by industry associations to producers, standard-setters and testing laboratories. Another objective is to formulate requirements for a decentralized control and regulation of these storage systems for a grid-optimized behavior in order to contribute to a reduction of the grid gradient with increasing PV systems. Energy efficiency and performance of the home storage systems will also be evaluated.

Content and approach

KIT analyses the home storage systems in different criteria: mainly, the functional safety, performance as well as grid-optimized behaviour will be evaluated in special testing facilities.

  Project duration

01-10-2015 - 31-03-2019

Project volume

4 mio. € in total
