Also in 2019, the Battery Technology Center was represented at the Hanover Messe. A true-to-scale model of the lithium-ion storage system was shown to visitors at the KIT booth on the subject of "Energy storage: a complete solution for a flexible power grid".

Off-grid Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems (OHRES) uses renewable energies and emergency power generators to supply remote regions with electricity. Mohamed Elkadragy analyses data from two identical wind/solar systems in climatically and economically completely different regions - Canada and Uganda - as part of his doctorate at the Battery Technology Center.

"Competence E" hast been terminated end of 2017 and the R&D activities are now carried out in theInstitute for Applied Materials – Energy Storage Systems (IAM-ESS), theInstitute of Electrical Engineering (ETI) and the Institute of Production Science (wbk) within the scope of the "Battery Technical Center".
